In Loving Memory of Mahendrabhai Ramanbhai Patel July 20, 1939 – June 21, 2026 With deep love and heavy hearts, we honor the life of Mahendrabhai Ramanbhai Patel, also known as “Darbar” in the Gujarati community—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 86. A longtime resident of New Hyde Park, New York, Mahendrabhai lived a life defined by kindness, humility, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His quiet strength, wisdom, generosity, and warm sense of humor touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Mahendrabhai dedicated 43 years of distinguished service as the Director of Finance for the Catholic Health System. Throughout his remarkable career, he earned the admiration and respect of colleagues through his professionalism, strong work ethic, and steadfast commitment to excellence. His integrity and leadership left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mahendrabhai was deeply committed to preserving and strengthening the Gujarati community in New York. As a founding member and Vice President of the Gujarati Samaj of New York, he helped establish the organization’s first chapter in 1974 alongside a group of professionals who shared a vision of bringing the Gujarati community together to celebrate its rich culture, traditions, and heritage. His dedication helped create an enduring organization that continues to foster unity, friendship, and cultural pride for generations of families. In his retirement years, Mahendrabhai devoted his time to the Vaishnav Temple of New York, continuing his deep sense of community through religious and cultural activities. There, he formed meaningful bonds with fellow members—many of whom became his dearest friends— creating relationships that extended far beyond the temple. Above all else, Mahendrabhai’s greatest joy was his family. He shared a beautiful marriage of 62 years with his beloved wife, Sushila, whose love and partnership were the cornerstone of their lives together. Their marriage was a shining example of commitment, compassion, and unconditional love. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Misha; his devoted son, Nimesh; his cherished daughter-in-law, Sanchita; and his treasured grandchildren, Rohan and Sahana, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life. He is also remembered with love by his extended family and many dear relatives and friends. Mahendrabhai will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for who he was— a humble, compassionate man who treated everyone with dignity and respect and always put others before himself. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
