Edward Mealing of Schenectady, NY passed on August 1,2021. Visitation will take place at Roslyn Heights Funeral Home on Thursday 11AM-1PM & 6-7PM with a Funeral Service 7-8PM. On Friday the funeral procession will leave Roslyn Heights Funeral Home promptly at 10:30AM. Anyone wishing to follow the funeral procession to Calverton National Cemetery may do so by remaining in their cars on Willow Street, alongside the Funeral Home facing Mineola Avenue. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Edward's name to either charity: https://www.kidney.org/content/front-page-nephron https://www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases Our dearly beloved, Edward Mealing, known to many as Eddie, Ed, and Ded, was born on December 11, 1945, in Glen Cove, NY to the late Evans and Altenia M b Mealing. Ten children were born of this union, Ester Mealing, Melvin Mealing, Evans Mealing Jr, Yvonne Myers, Joan Cumbo, Mary Peagler, Jesse Mealing, Diane Morgan, Penny Mealing, and two loving forster children Berry Carson and Albert Bostic. Edward Mealing was a member of the First Baptist Church in Glen Cove, New York. He graduated Glen Cove High School in 1964. He then continued his academic studies in North Carolina. He would go on to earn his bachelor's degree from SUNY Old Westbury. He later went on to earn a master's degree with Long Island University at C.W.Post. He would later enlist into the U.S. Coast Guard. He completed his training in Cape May, New Jersey in 1967. Edward Mealing received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard in May of 1973, and subsequently decided to join the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. Eddie met his wife Cathleen Larissa Mealing while attending Glen Cove High School. They would later go on to be married on August 4, 1967. They settled in Glen Cove, New York. Edward and Cathleen were blessed with two children Lexy Alison Mealing and Shauri Evans Mealing. Later in life Eddie would go onto work for the State of New York in the capacity of an Assistant Director for the New York State Office of Children & Family services. After serving over 25 years, he would then retire as Director of New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Eddie was an active jazz enthusiast and musician. He enjoyed playing the flute, saxophone, and bongos. Some of his favorite musicians include Gato Barbieri, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and many others. He would attend the annual Saratoga Jazz Festival throughout his adult life. He was an audiophile with a huge collection of records including reel to reels, vinyls, Bose speakers, and other high-quality stereo equipment. He would always look forward to family and friend gatherings, no matter the distance, for good times and great music. He enjoyed fishing, playing backgammon, spades, Tai Chi, and taking care of his plants. He loved enjoying seafood and Chinese cuisine. His great admiration for Porsche automobiles led him to owning 3 Porsche vehicles in the latter years of his life, as well as becoming a member of the Metropolitan New York Region Porsche Club of America. Eddie's loving and caring heart for the less fortunate would lead him to volunteer at a non profit organization which focused on the rebuilding and renovation of low-income housing. Eddie had great passion for his family's history. He had recently began cataloguing an extensive family genealogy. Eddie leaves to mourn his wife Cathleen, his two children Lexy Alison Mealing and Shauri Evans Mealing. His four grandchildren Edwin L. Hueca Jr., Asia M. Castillo, Shauri E. Mealing Jr., and Journey C. Mealing. His siblings Diane Morgan, Penny Mealing, Albert Bostic and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
