Francis G. Califano

December 31, 2019

Francis G. Califano (62) of Roslyn, New York on December 31, 2019. Beloved husband of Catherine, loving father of Andrew and cherished brother of Regina,Dona and Vincent (Julie). Frank was also a devoted uncle to Patrick, Kate and Jack Califano, a revered son-in-law of Josephine DeNardis and brother-in-law of Peter DeNardis (Janis). Frank is pre-deceased by son Matthew, parents Frank and Rose and father-in-law Sisto DeNardis. In addition to his family, Frank was dedicated to his community, serving as a paramedic/firefighter, first in his hometown of New Hyde Park and then joining Roslyn Rescue upon moving to the neighborhood in 1983. Frank was an active and enthusiastic member throughout his 40+ years of fire service, fulfilling many roles, including proudly serving as EMS Captain. His commitment to community service was further demonstrated in his chosen career path. He went to work at North Shore University Hospital in 1991, rising through the ranks to his current position of Emergency Management Coordinator. Frank was instrumental in helping to develop, launch and manage Emergency Management Services for Northwell. His passion, knowledge and experience was widely respected. Aside from work and the firehouse, Frank was an automotive and racing enthusiast. He was quick with an anecdote or (sometimes corny) joke. He enjoyed dining out with friends, listening to classical music, cheering on the Fighting Irish and spending time with Cathy and Andrew, whether traveling abroad, in NYC , or at their homes in Roslyn or out East. Frank was a man of honor, integrity and love, and he touched many lives in both his professional and personal roles. Although much too short, his was a life well-lived. He will be sorely missed, not only by his family, but also his many friends and colleagues. Visitation will be Thursday, January 2, from 7:00 – 9:00pm, and Friday, January 3,from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, January 4, at 10:00am, at St. Mary’s RC Church in Roslyn Harbor, New York. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to the Northwell Health Emergency Medical Institute’s Paramedic Scholarship Fund at Northwell Health Foundation 2000 Marcus Ave. New Hyde Park, NY 11042
