Joann Menduni

Joann Menduni, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home on June 24th, 2026. She leaves behind memories of her love and wisdom in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Rita Lynn (Tom) Mammano, Susan (Frank) Dellaquila, Rosalie (Jim) Menduni-Philipps. Her grandchildren: Joseph (Maggie) Mammano, Robert (Libby) Mammano, Christopher (Georgina) Mammano, Michael (Lauren) Dellaquila, JennaLynn and Stephen Philipps. Her great grandchildren: Gabe, Amelia, Jan, and Julia. She is predeceased by her husband Dominico and her son Charles. Joann was born on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on April 25th, 1933. Over the years she went by many names, Giovannina, Jenny from Garrick St., Joanie, AJ, and of course Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. Everyone who knew her regardless of what they called her, appreciated her support, encouragement, humor, wit, resilience, and compassion. Joann moved to “the country,” Flushing, Queens when she was 17, and shortly after she met many new neighbors on the block. These neighbors became family, including the love of her life, her husband of 73 years Dominico. Although she was a full-time mom and dedicated much of her life to raising her 4 children, she also worked as a bookkeeper and office manager at Sam’s BC Nursery. In her career, which lasted to her mid 80’s, she used her faculty with numbers, her organizational skills, and her big personality to help build the business. She was very dedicated to and involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. This love and dedication showed up in so many ways big and small. Whether doing laundry, removing a splinter, helping study for a big exam or traveling to St. Louis, New Jersey, Oregon, Barcelona, and many other places to help celebrate birthdays and special occasions, she was always there for us all. Joann was so special to so many people. She had such sharp wit and was deeply funny. She was compassionate and a great listener, a trusted confidant, and a source of sassy honest advice. She was strong, resilient, and inspirational. She was a glue that held her family together. She made good times shine bright and rough times more bearable. Visitation will be held at Roslyn Heights Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8PM. Funeral Mass Saturday 10:30AM at American Martyrs R.C. Church.
